What’s involved?
The market entry process ensures that your systems and processes comply with REC and BSC Code requirements, align with robust industry best practices, and maintain a high level of information security.

Furthermore, the process requires you to demonstrate that your chosen delivery partner possesses the necessary expertise and resources to effectively support the rigorous demands of the industry, for the long-term success of the IDNO.

This rigorous qualification process provides assurance to Code Administrators (REC and BSC) and the Regulator (Ofgem) that you meet the necessary standards. Through rigorous risk mitigation, we ensure that your systems, people, and processes won't pose a threat to electricity settlement or other market participants.

Obtaining a licence from Ofgem
Each IDNO must operate under a set of Standard Licence Conditions (SLCs) issued by Ofgem from the day the licence is granted. These SLCs require IDNOs to maintain, become party to, or comply with various industry codes as outlined in the licence conditions.

Gaining Retail Energy Code (RECCo) assurance
The Retail Energy Code Company (RECCo) oversees a framework for faster and more reliable energy supplier switching for consumers. This includes managing critical activities like the Electricity Data Retail Agent (ERDA) and the Central Switching Service (CSS). To operate within the GB energy market, IDNOs are required to demonstrate their ability to perform specific activities safely and reliably.

Gaining Balancing & Settlement Code (BSC) assurance
The BSC is a multi-party contract that sets the operating rules for IDNOs within the GB energy market. The BSC Qualification process ensures that an organisation's systems and processes meet the rigorous standards and best practices defined by the BSC.
