Electricity Case Studies

Our case studies showcase how C&C Group partners with organisations across the energy, pharmaceutical, and regulated sectors to deliver secure, reliable, and high-impact operational and data solutions. Each example highlights our ability to solve complex challenges, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide the technical expertise and operational support our clients depend on.

Case Study – Electricity Enquiry Service (EES)

What It Is

The Electricity Enquiry Service (EES) is a national market platform operated on behalf of RECCo, providing authoritative access to electricity address and MPAN data across the GB. It underpins transparency, switching accuracy and operational integrity within the electricity market, serving suppliers, network operators and industry participants at scale.

EES is not simply a data lookup tool — it is a critical component of market confidence. Its availability, integrity and performance directly influence the smooth functioning of electricity market processes nationwide.

C&C Group is responsible for operating, securing and continuously enhancing this central industry platform.

Case Study – UNITY Platform (MHHS)

What It Is

Unity is C&C Group’s market-proven integration and messaging platform designed to support large-scale, regulated market change programmes such as Market-wide Half Hourly Settlement (MHHS). MHHS represented one of the most significant transformations in the UK energy market since the introduction of competition, requiring a new approach to market-wide communications, resilience, and regulatory compliance.

C&C Group is the selected partner for approximately 99% of DNO and IDNO MPANs, placing Unity at the centre of MHHS delivery across the UK. Unity operates as a secure and scalable integration layer between the central Data Integration Platform (DIP) and multiple participant systems, enabling organisations to meet stringent non-functional and regulatory requirements while protecting core operational platforms from disruption.

What It Is

The Technical Assurance Agent (TAA) service provides independent oversight of performance, data integrity and system compliance within the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) framework. Acting on behalf of Elexon, the TAA plays a critical role in strengthening confidence across the UK electricity settlement landscape.

The service ensures that market participants, central systems and settlement processes operate as intended — identifying risks, validating controls and providing evidential assurance across complex, high-value market activities.

C&C Group delivers the TAA function with structured governance, technical depth and regulatory precision.

Case Study – UNITY Messenger CSS (formally known as SWIM-HOOKS)

Unity_Transparent_New.png

What It Is

The GB Energy Central Switching Service (CSS) was introduced by Ofgem in 2022. Its main purpose is to facilitate efficient and expedited switching between energy suppliers within the retail energy market. The CSS acts as a central hub for managing registrations and associated data for electricity and gas.

UNITY Messenger CSS is a CSS Adapter developed by C&C Group specifically for the electricity industry metering point registration system (MPRS) to be able to interact with the CSS. An adaptor service offers a number of benefits as it allows different software systems to communicate and work together smoothly, even if they were not originally designed to do so. It is also flexible to adapt to changes, scalable to meet changing operational activity.

C&C Group were the first party to exchange live files with the DCC and our software underpins 99.2% of all IDNO MPANs.
